Simply Super

So where do you rank Super Bowl XLII?

There is no question the Giants' stunning 17-14 victory over the previously undefeated Patriots is one of the more compelling NFL title games of all time.

True, the Patriots won their first two Super Bowls on late field goals, and the Giants' second Super Bowl victory was sealed when Buffalo's Scott Norwood missed a field goal, but there is something about a game-winning touchdown drive that stirs the imagination.

So I would submit that the only games that compare to this one were the 1956 NFL Championship, when the Baltimore Colts defeated the Giants in overtime, and the San Francisco 49ers' victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII.

The Colts' victory is widely considered the game that put the NFL in the nation's consciousness, while the 49ers' triumph cemented the legend of Joe Montana, who engineered a 92-yard drive in the final 3 minutes.

Whether or not the Giants' victory was the "best ever" is subject to debate, but I'd suggest it rates with the best.
